T<\/span>here’s a whole lot of legal stuff going on here in the Casa d’ KiranTarun, but let me spare you these painful jargon details. Lets just say that “when the going gets tough, the tough needs <\/em>to get going”. And we are about to make tough decisions in the coming months.<\/p>\n

Don’t get me wrong since I can’t get into details. Rest assured, I do love my life, my husband and our marriage \ud83d\ude42 Ok, take a deep breathe and read.<\/p>\n

When we married<\/a> a few years ago, we had to instantaneously leave our families and friends back home to start anew in this unknown land. Scary?<\/em> Yes. Excited?<\/em> Of course! I landed in Austin, Texas and we moved a lot throughout US – the Hubby was on contractual assignments. I, on the other hand, left my corporate job with a multi-national firm\u00a0 and begin securing a MBA from an Australian university, via distance learning. From Austin, we moved to Bowling Green, Kentucky and from Kentucky we became Southerners by moving to Florida in late 2007. That is when we decided to purchase our first home<\/a>, together. And that, was a big deal since we didn’t thought much about, let’s just say, “long term repercussions<\/em>“.<\/p>\n

We immediately settled into our new home and new life. Time flew by, I graduated with MBA and Tarun is happy with his career. One thing that has been difficult for us – staying apart from families and friends back home. Of course, we tried filling the void by inviting our families over, taking trips to visit them<\/a> etc. But it’s never the same. We often miss celebrating birthdays, anniversaries, festivals, or just quality time together. Don’t get me wrong – we have plenty of friends and have fun<\/a> living here in Florida. Not to forget, we are so thankful for the existing technologies such as Skype, Facebook & this blog where we are able to keep in constant touch with loved ones all around the world. It’s just, never the same \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

Oh yeah, did I mentioned before I have a sister that lives in London <\/em>and another, in Amsterdam<\/em>? I feel bad for our parents since we are all out of Malaysia, living in different time zones.<\/p>\n

How do you ease yourself into a new environment, culture or society? Is there such a thing as “<\/em>the best technique”? Who or what do you miss the most?<\/em>
