My ♥ fluttered as the plane touched down on the tarmac of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). Sigh, I truly missed the airport. Seriously. Before marriage, a major part of my life involves chauffeuring family and friends to and fro the KLIA airport – lame isn’t it? Anyways, no flights for me during that period. Reality struck huge when it was my turn to board the plane for US, more than 3 years ago. Time flies.

I almost raced to the baggage claim and immigration. And then I saw them, at the arrival gate. Mom and dad.

Awaiting impatiently, I could tell 🙂 A tear rolled down my cheek. I wept. It’s been 3 years guys! We reunited, got to the car park and head for home. Mom asked, “what do you feel like eating?” Gosh! I truly missed Malaysian cuisine. We went ahead for local breakfast, and duh.. it had to be our staple nasi lemak and teh tarik! Yummylicious 😀

Mom enjoying nasi lemak ;)

Arrived home with a full tummy, jet-lag and tiredness! Phew! It was a long journey back home. I snoozed and awoke a couple of hours later to the most delicious scent of aloo pakora’s 🙂 Mom, you are the best! What more can I ask for?

The next few days were packed with embassy appointment to renew my US visa, shopping, food sampling, dinner and lunch appointments with family’s and friends’. Fun was short-lived when I met with an accident. Nothing serious, no bodily harm or injury. Bumper dangling from each side of the car, with serious dents, bumps and bruises. Not to forget the fine of Ringgit Malaysia (RM) 300 that was slapped to me by the Police for allegedly not keeping a safe distance with a vehicle that was ahead of us. It’s a law in Malaysia, if you hit a vehicle at rear, you are automatically issued a ticket. It’s a very good law, only if I am immune to it 🙂 Sigh. The repair itself costs an additional RM600. What a luck? I am sorry for damaging the car Dad 🙁

Innocent victim :(

Lesson learned. The hard way.

Part 4 coming up, stay tuned!

As part of my grand plan of setting new year resolutions, I have made some subtle improvements to our home interior. I am not an interior designer, mind you – considered warned if you need my advise in this department – If you have or given the right materials, tools, accessories, and theme, this task of re-decorating can be as simple as reciting your favorite song – without a tune, which is so much easier. The photos begins with the formal dining room, living room, kitchen and butler’s pantry. Butler’s pantry are commonly used for extra storage. Personally, I use it “buffet” style when we entertain family’s and friend’s. It’s very convenient when the dining table is not occupied with platters of food.

I have made some improvements in other areas of the house as well. Feast on the photos below:

We do not use the breakfast bar during meals – instead it is now a pedestal for my beloved indoor plants :)

I love indoor plants! In fact, I am planning to salvage some of my pots and pans and turn it into planters. Very green and economical.

Our favorite venue, especially during the summers. Endless BBQ’ing. The planters are filled with seasonal fresh herbs such as basil, rosemary, mint and curry leaves. Sigh, I can never live without curry leaves :D

Money plant! I heard many myths about money plant. So far, it fails to amuse me. People, stop spreading myths!

This is a very cute toilet placard :D My sister bought it for us from Amsterdam. We are so depended on Google Maps, and now we need a placard over the toilet door?

I need help on wall coloring as well. Do you think I need to paint different colors on my wall? Currently the walls are beige, all over the house! Suggestions on colors would be great :)

The first half of 2009 has surpassed without any warning. Time flies huh? I guess it’s time to revisit the ol’ new year resolutions I’d made. Why did I had to? Why? Anyways..

1) Develop a new skill or revisit an old one. I’ve started a small cross-stitching project. Nothing huge, just to rekindle the memories of old school handicraft classes that I took back then. I would take on knitting projects in future. For that, I need to Google.

2) Get fit or develop a healthy diet. I am back on the treadmill and so is Tarun. Whilst grocery shopping, we’ve also developed a habit of reading nutrition labels. It is important to know what and how much goes into food preparation rather than assuming. Prevention is always better than cure my friends.

3) Get more organized – virtually. My laptop is such a let-down these days. But it has stayed on with me, through thick and thin. I have since backed up, deleted and did some housekeeping. But the performance is not at par. Despite all this, we still went ahead with our domain name registration and self-hosting. Adventurous, I must say.

4) Spend more time with friends. I’ve been to a couple of dinners and catching-up sessions with friends. I foresee more gathering’s in future. Cheers to that!

5) Catch up on reading. I was introduced to Sophie Kinsella’s Shopholic series and I am hooked! I am currently reading Undomestic Goddess. And yes, Sophie wrote it.

6) Begin a home improvement project. Does interior decorating counts? I have no background or experience but I must say the transformation is not all that bad. Before and after photos are coming up later.

7) Get more involved in community and charity. We are involved in a charity for the Disabled American Veteran’s. And back in India, we are consistently donating food supplies to the less fortune’s.

8) Blog often. It’s an ongoing process. Now that we have our website to manage, people might view it more of an obligation to blog. But for me, blogging should be more about being responsible, expressive and less about obligation. Freedom of speech in writing, who am I to object it?

9) Begin a personal project. I am into photography these days. Nikon D60 is my new toy.

10) Meet and greet neighbors often. It’s an ongoing process. There are a couple of neighbors just moved into their new home. Giving them time to settle into their new environment. Welcome to the neighborhood :)

So, tell me. Any progress with your new year resolution?

On a separate topic, we are expecting some major changes in our lives, and I have been preparing and researching so much about it. There have been several and on-going soul-searching sessions between me and Tarun before decision making. I am sure some of your curiosity thermometer is peaking at the highest of reading. I can’t reveal something that is undecided at the moment. Not even a gist. Sigh.

Warning: This post is all about fashion and shopping guides – no offense, I am a little (fashionably) late with this post! You are welcome to devour over any brilliant (if you insist) gift/shopping ideas for your loved ones. Not that I am accusing you of your gift choices. Hell, I won’t make any more excuses on your behalf. Read on, you fashion freak ! 😀

A cupboard full of trendy and designer label wears.

Shoe rack or wheel bursting with flip flops, wedges, peep toes, pumps, heels, boots etc.

Accessories, beauty products, handbags etc..

And the list can goes on and on. Fashion sense is in every one. It wouldn’t hurt to recognize fashion favorites of the significant other. It is just a matter of knowing the actual size, favorite color, type and designs. I must confess that I’ve became a shoe and handbag freak! Surprisingly, I wasn’t a fashion addict before marriage—I didn’t had the luxury nor time to spruce my ego—you can judge me, I won’t hire a lawyer 🙂 It all started when Tarun gifted me quite a few pairs of shoes and handbags since we eloped—don’t fret at his great eye for fashion. Thank goodness he has not regretted on his decisions. We are not keen in spending unnecessarily. Anything wearable is doable. A decent wardrobe, nothing fancy. It is actually simple to maintain a decent lifestyle without splurging on expensive labels. The important key is recognizing the bargaining power! Simply means, SALE! I’ve never purchase any fashionable items at a ridiculous price tag. I always scour and wait for season sales. The best bargains are found after Christmas and better still, New Year sale! And that would probably be the best time to catch me hopping from one shop into the other 🙂 Please don’t ignore if you see me. A simple Hi won’t hurt. Anyways…

*These are some of the outlets (name brands if you insist) that I frequently visit. Click on the images for current bargains:

thebodyshopmarshallsbathnbodyworksross

sephorabenefit-cosmeticsnine-westorigins

What differs these outlets from others are not just in their price competitiveness but also the quality, variety of name brand carriers, comfort, style, and range. Now you would question, what about Thanksgiving Black Friday sale? Well, if you are willing to wait for hours in cold, chilly or undeserving weather conditions, than by all means. Personally, I would only go for gadget shopping during Black Friday. This is just personal, though this theory is yet to be tested 😀 Be my guess and let me know your take on Black Friday. On the other hand, eShopping is so convenient! There is no waiting in line, fuel consumption or feet aches. Occasionally, I indulge into online shopping as long as I avoid purchasing anything that involves measurement. All in all, I still prefer in-store experiences where I am able to have a feel of comfort while shopping for any merchandises. That is just me, what about you? Do you prefer eShopping or in-store?

Now that we are planning a trip back to India and Malaysia, what could be better than to shop mementos in bulk for family’s and friends without breaking the bank balance right? With the right time, place and list, you are in for a surprise with great bargains out there. And also, don’t forget to sign up online with your favorite outlet(s) to receive discounts and special offers!

Shopaholic’s, splurge away! Husbands, considered warned!
