India

Duration: 8th March – 21st April

After the car wrecking incident in Malaysia, I was forced to travel around for my visa appointments using the same car. The damage was not a big deal for dad and he insisted that I drove around for my chore using the same car. If you are planning a long trip to Kuala Lumpur, I would definitely suggest getting a car on rental instead of hopping around with cabbies that can cost a fortune. If I’d avoid cabbies, why can’t you? I drove a wrecked car for Pete’s sake!!! Sorry Dad.

Anyways, me and mom were scheduled for the trip to India. After collecting our Indian visa’s, packing, arrival at the airport, security check-in.. blah.. blah.. blah.. – we excitedly boarded the plane. The duration of flight was for 4 hours and 45 minutes. It was like forever! Half an hour before landing, I started popping pain killers* etc to avoid nasty Vertigo symptoms. Believe me, it’s nasty. My ear drums would ache so badly that it feels as though as it would burst anytime. Seriously. Flying is something I never enjoy. It came with a hefty price of pain.

Touched down with an OUCH! I could barely hear anything. These awful Vertigo symptoms lasts a few days. It’s sickening. Immigration and luggage clearance was a breeze. Met my hubby and mom in law at the airport awaiting for us. Hubby flew from US to India just a day before our arrival. We were whisked away into the car for the journey back to my sasural. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Papa, Bhaiya and Bhabhi. Not to forget our cute and adorable nephew, Shanu 🙂 It was a homecoming for me. Mummyji (mom in law) performed a small rite/prayer to welcome me into the family.

We had loads of fun. It was our first holi at my in laws after marriage. It was my first holi ever in my life. Holi is not recognized or celebrated at a large scale in Malaysia. We had to first look for worn-out clothing. This is not the day to be adorned with jewelry’s and fine sari’s. Before you know it, me and the gang was smothered with variety of colors. Boy oh boy.. It took loads of scrubbing afterwards!

* I was prescribed with Vertigo medications/pain killers by my personal physician. In no way this suggests that I am addicted to pain killers 😀

India – a country with lush history, boundless spirits, cultural richness, abundance of humility and a haven of food. The list is long, but allow me to summarize it – there is nothing like our INDIA :)

August 15th, it reminds us of our struggles and the responsibilities as a citizen. Though we are independent from an occupier, the true independence lies when the weakest amongst us would be able to live his or her dreams, no matter how big or small it may be, or how varied we all are in terms of color, religion and caste.

Independence is not merely a destination, but a journey which should be cherished by every Indian, in every breath and moment of our lives. Though we have come a long way, we need to strive for greater heights ahead.

Jai Hind!

I can’t stress enough the importance for each and every one of us to voice our opinions and thoughts, ethically. I am sure not only me, but there are others that would love to make a difference in life, just the methods are often incorrect or unavailable. I find that Facebook is a great platform as it gives us opportunities to reunite, without any prejudices, to speak our thoughts and hopefully changing it into action. We have set up a vigil/candle lighting event at our readers’ disposal. To participate, you just need a Facebook account and join us by clicking on the vigil event that can be found here. It is important to honor our fallen heroes, safely of course.

Let’s join hands in tackling and combating terrorism and numerous humanity issues through healthy debates. I want to see change. I want to reach out to those that can really help us raise our voices towards action. There is so much we can do, and debate is only the first step. This time, let’s get our words out – loud and clear. UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL. Every one wants to make a change or a difference, so why not start here? You can also be involved in collating news, information and research using various online resources. Of course you would also be contributing your valuable ideas as well. We sincerely hope every one of you would contribute civilly and let’s not turn this forum into a religion or communal issue. Encourage healthy debates by not engaging in religious and personal attacks. Gain respect by respecting each other. If interested, please drop us a comment or two, either here or at our Facebook group. We are happy to hear from you. God bless us all during this tough and trying times.

Oh my god! I can never fathom what has just happened. My in laws, families and friends are in Delhi, and thank god they are all doing fine and well. Our thought and prayers goes out to the ones affected and hoping for the safety of the rest, as we all try to digest what just happened. Act of terrorism existing in the 21st century, is hard to believe, and this have been going on all the time, every where around the globe. This is a cowardly and selfish act, claiming to be heroic by the minorities who believes in killing the innocents and not obeying the law. There are other ways of negotiating. I shall not write or comment more on these terrorist as I do not want to glorify them in writing.

I shall bid adieu now, with the thought and prayers of Delhians safety. It is a very emotional time. For all of us.

Been occupied for many days now. I have a few more thesis to complete before the semester break. That’s a relief. We are also planning a trip to India early ’09. I can hardly contain myself. It’s my first trip ever! I am very excited! But I would need some suggestions:

Venue: New Delhi & surroundings

1. Places that I must visit & why?

2. Shopping venue for (home decor, personals etc)everything a girl loves?

3. Shopping must-haves (suggestions)?

4. What food must I try and suggestions on venue?

5. Do’s and Dont’s.

6. Tips, suggestions or advice?

Drop me a comment. I would love to know more about India and get an early head start on planning for the trip.
